TBILISI -- Georgian Prime Minister Giorgi Gakharia announced his resignation on Thursday.
Gakharia said in a statement that he decided to step down because he could not reach an agreement with the ruling party over the arrest warrant issued against Nika Melia, a parliament member and head of the United National Movement opposition party. (Georgia-Prime Minister-Resign)

MOGADISHU -- Somali military said it had killed 20 al-Shabab fighters in an operation in the southern region of Lower Shabelle on Wednesday, a military officer confirmed on Thursday.
Odawa Yusuf Rage, commander of Somali National Army said the operation was conducted along the road linking Janale and Qoryoley towns and the army inflicted casualties on the militants. (Somali-National Army-Killed-Al-Shabab)

TEHRAN -- At least 40 people were injured in a 5.6-magnitude earthquake that shook Sisakht city in Iran's western Kohgiluye va Boyerahmad province Wednesday night, the ISNA news agency reported.
The quake has caused a lot of damage to buildings, structures as well as roads in the city, and cut off the electricity and water network, the report said. (Iran-Injured-Earthquake)

LAGOS -- Nigeria's security forces said that they are working to rescue students abducted on Wednesday morning in the north-central part of the country.
In an attack on the Government Science College, a boarding school in Kagara town of Niger State, one student was killed and 42 others -- 27 students, three school staff and their 12 family members -- were abducted by gunmen. (Nigeria-Students-Abducted)
