KAMPALA, Uganda: Despite claiming that his country's response to an Ebola outbreak was succeeding, Yoweri Museveni, President of Uganda, has extended a quarantine placed on two districts in central Uganda by 21 days.
Last week, Museveni said that movement into and out of Mubende and Kassanda districts, the epicenter of the outbreak, will be restricted up to 17th December.
The extension aims "to further sustain the gains in control of Ebola that we have made, and to protect the rest of the country from continued exposure," he added.
However, "it may be too early to celebrate any successes, but overall, I have been briefed that the picture is good," he said in a statement.
The East African country has so far recorded 141 infections since 20th September, including 55 deaths.
The Ebola virus found in Uganda is the Sudan strain, for which there is no proven vaccine, unlike the more common Zaire strain that recently hit the neighboring Democratic Republic of Congo.
