NEW YORK CITY, New York: Igloo is recalling over a million of its rolling coolers across the U.S., Mexico, and Canada after reports of serious injuries caused by a handle defect, including fingertip amputations.
The recall, announced by the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), affects the "Igloo 90 Qt. Flip & Tow Rolling Coolers." According to the agency, the tow handle can pinch users' fingers against the cooler, posing a risk of severe injury, including fractures and lacerations.
So far, Igloo has received 12 reports of injuries in the U.S., including fingertip amputations. The company urges consumers to stop using the coolers immediately and contact them for a free replacement handle.
The affected coolers were sold between 2019 and January 2025 at major retailers, including Costco, Target, Dick's Sporting Goods, and Amazon, with prices ranging from $80 to $140. The recall covers approximately 1.06 million units in the U.S., 47,000 in Canada, and 23,000 in Mexico.
The recalled products, manufactured in the U.S. before January 2024, can be identified by model numbers and branding, with "IGLOO" printed on the side. Consumers can register for a replacement handle online or contact Igloo directly at 888-943-5182 or [email protected].
"Igloo is conducting this recall with consumer safety as our top priority," the company said in a statement. "Through rigorous testing and proactive steps, we are constantly improving our products to meet the highest safety standards."
Additional details and registration information are available through the CPSC, Health Canada, and the OECD's global recall portal.
