Gleyber Torres drove in four runs, including a three-run homer, and Jack Flaherty pitched six strong innings as the host Detroit Tigers snapped a six-game losing streak with a 10-4 win over the Toronto Blue Jays on Sunday afternoon.
Dillon Dingler had two hits, scored a run and drove in two more, while Parker Meadows added two hits and scored twice. Detroit salvaged the finale of the four-game series.
Flaherty (6-10) gave up five hits and struck out seven. His mound opponent, Max Scherzer, gave up three runs and struck out 11 in seven innings.
Bo Bichette had five hits, including a two-run single in a four-run ninth, but the Blue Jays' four-game winning streak ended.
Scherzer (1-1) set down the first six batters he faced but immediately got into trouble in the third. Dingler led off with a single and moved to third on Meadows' double. With two outs, Torres drove a fastball to the opposite field for his 10th homer.
After Bichette's third hit of the game in the sixth, Flaherty finished off his sharp outing by striking out Addison Barger and Ernie Clement.
With Tyler Holton on the mound, the Blue Jays threatened in the seventh. Tyler Heineman smacked a one-out double and Davis Schneider drew a walk.
After a fielder's choice put runners at the corners, Brenan Hanifee replaced Holton and retired George Springer on a fly ball.
Scherzer struck out two of the last three batters he faced in the bottom of the inning.
Detroit extended its lead with seven runs against Chad Green and Justin Bruihl in the eighth. Meadows singled with one out and scored on Javier Baez's double to left. Baez stole third and scored on a Torres single.
Bruihl gave up singles to pinch hitter Matt Vierling and Riley Greene, with Torres scoring on the latter. Spencer Torkelson also had an RBI single and Dingler drove in two more before the inning ended.
Springer (single) and Barger (double) drove in runs for Toronto in the ninth along with Bichette's two-run hit.
