ISSAQUAH, Washington: Shoppers in more than a dozen U.S. states are being urged to throw away certain bottles of Costco's house-brand Prosecco after the retailer warned they could explode without warning.
In a notice on its website, Costco said the recall affects Kirkland Signature Prosecco Valdobbiadene purchased between April 25 and August 26. The affected bottles were sold in Iowa, Illinois, Indiana, Kentucky, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, North Dakota, Nebraska, Ohio, South Dakota, and Wisconsin.
Costco said unopened bottles can shatter even when not being handled or used. Customers are advised to wrap any unopened bottles in paper towels and place them in a plastic bag before disposing of them to avoid the risk of shattered glass.
Costco did not respond when asked if there were any reported injuries related to the issue. The company also did not say how many bottles were sold or how the problem was discovered.
Costco said it is sending letters to impacted customers, who will receive a full refund if they bring the letters to their nearest store.
